mcqueen fashion illustration

My final brief for a semester in year 2 was related to fashion illustration - more specifically, Alexander McQueen. I decided to pay homage to the late designer by looking at what he created before his death.

It took around two weeks to watch and note what I thought about every fashion show he directed. I looked at what outfits I would like to illustrate as well as the reasoning for every show, making it easier for me to decide later down the line.

I knew I wanted to use outfits from all stages of his career, right from Dante (1996, A/W) to his final show, Angels and Demons (2010, A/W), which was not directed by him but it carried on his legacy and showed pieces of clothing that he had worked on before his death.

The outfits below, from left to right, are from Hall of Plenty (2009, A/W, Look 45), Widows of Culloden (2006, A/W, Look 47), Angels and Demons (2010, A/W, Look 16?), Voss (2001, S/S, Look 10), It's Only A Game (2005, S/S), It's a Jungle Out There (1997, A/W).

Below are some examples of illustrations that didn't make it into the cut, starting with illustrations that were made after Alexander McQueen's death and others I just didn't find as exciting or inspiring.

These strictly traditional illustrations however, have a charm to them that may lack in the hybrid illustration method I used in the final pieces. The reason why I used a hybrid of traditional and digital was because it was much more forgiving and easier to work with as I do not ususally use inks.
