This illustration was created for a competition The Folio Book Illustration Award. This was for the 2025 brief: Rapunzel.

The illustration is much more of a literal concept of one of the most famous scenes of the book, perhaps lacking in personal creativity, I can see why I wasn't considered.

I overall really like this piece, but compared to artwork chosen as the winner and runner-ups, I believe what I could have improved in is the composition, emotion and atmosphere.

When I tried tackling this brief, I had read through the book and settled on a scene that spoke to me. I settled on the classic scene of Rapunzel letting down her hair. I added onto the illustration the more time I spent on it and I think it's fun! But not interesting enough.
