The Final Name was a book brief created by Emily Carr, a creative writing student at the University of Sunderland.
I had read through the brief she had created for her book and found that her horror/thriller idea was interesting. I wanted to create a fully illustrated front cover.
I knew I wanted to illustrate a cottage with the main character reading by it, with a creepy face somewhere in the back. I eventually settled for the first idea I had, sending it to the student for any feedback before beginning to colour it.
After I finished colouring it, I went onto picking out a font for the title. Deciding to keep the middle one and bin the rest.
Overall, I find that this front colour is quite dark, and wouldn't be super eye-catching if was actually created for a physical book, therefore, if I could go back and tweak the colours to be lighter and more contrasting, that would make it look much better.
I also believe I could have worked with the type font a bit more, maybe even making my own, would have given the book a much more interesting flair.
